KMW Special and USAID Ukraine present a panel discussion "News, fakes, manipulations, and the place of positive information in news programs"

September 15 | 15:20 – 16:10
On September 15, KYIV MEDIA WEEK Special will host a panel discussion "News, fakes, manipulations, and the place of positive information in news programs" with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

If media is a reflection of society, then who do we see in this mirror, and do we want to deal with such people? If post-truth undermines certain vital elements of trust in society, how does this affect the interaction between people? The information space increased with social media also appears a field for fakes, intimidation, and manipulation. However, positive news occurs as well, and it's not just about "a baby panda birth", so what is their place on the air? What ideas are becoming unifying in Ukrainian society, what positive news about social and political changes receive high ratings, and what impact they have on our way of life?

These and other acute questions of the current information space will be addressed by the participants of the discussion Oksana Dykhnich (ICTV, Ukraine), Peter Pomerantsev (LSE, Great Britain), Eva Cukier (NRC, the Netherlands) and moderator Pavlo Novikov (Radio NV, Ukraine). Speakers will focus on ways of presenting information in news and news programs and in this context will analyze the program policy of TV channels and other mass media.

She has been working in television for over 20 years. Peter Pomerantsev is the British journalist, author and TV producer, the author of the book This is Not Propaganda, Adventures in the War Against Reality (2019). He is the Director of the Arena Initiative, based at Johns Hopkins University and the London School of Economics.

Eva Zucker is a journalist with Dutch newspaper NRC. Prior to her journalistic career she worked in the sphere of human rights and international policy in Russia and the CIS region. After 5 years working as an editor for Russia at the foreign desk in Amsterdam, she will soon cover news from the region as a correspondent based in Moscow.
